Daughter Observations

Over the summer, my daughter DesignGirl often noted how I was done a book already. She had noticed the speed difference between us. She would often remark how I was done a book already.

That brings us to this year in school. My daughter's been reading Mrs Frisbee and the Rats of NIMH for class. As that's on my to-read list for the top fantasy novels of the 1970's, I started too. When she saw that I was halfway through the book, she took that as a personal challenge, and in just a few days, both denied me any opportunity to read and finished first. Wow.

Go DesignGirl.

She's also gotten better at writing sentences. Last year, she would say a sentence, then ask for help remembering it. This year, she's writing compound sentences off the top of her head. She's now able to get through some homework without me sitting on her. I still don't like homework, but third grade is already a better experience than second grade.
