Whatta Rain

The rain dumped on us yesterday, and I do mean dumped. Our local creek overflowed its banks and covered the soccer field. I've never see it so overflowed. (That's only for two years, but still.) The water traveled 75 yards away from the creek. Yowza.

Jenny worked hard on a short story and submitted it. Yay my Jenny. Now write more.

I find that I can write comedic short stories quite easily. I used to write them back in my 20's and early 30's and I've hopped back into the saddle with them pretty easy. I can bang out a thousand words an hour, no problem. Kiddie stories? I've been telling those for years. Brain, meet keyboard. Other types of short stories? Learning curve. So, I'm slowly working on my range.

So far, the only thing that I found that works for me is to look at how a short story is supposed to be, give that preconception the middle finger, and go write something else. I get writers block when I try to write what I suppose that a short story should look like. It's only when I accept my inner voice's idea of what a story should look like that I can write.

I can do idea stories, but they suck. So, let's not talk about my idea stories.
