Food and Food Fail

Christmas dinner came of pretty well. Jenny made a ham steak in apple butter, along with fresh wilted spinach. She wrapped up with figgy pudding, which worked very well. It did make too much, so it's a good thing that we have guests coming.

My contribution to the meal was a loaf of challah. That should read "challah fail". I forgot to add the yeast to the bread machine on dough setting. Yeah, I'm an idiot. So, I did my best to add in the yeast and let it rise. That worked poorly. I tried baking it, and it was just glumpy when it came out, so I pulled the glumps into strands and plopped it back into the oven. An hour later, I had tolerable pretzel sticks. So yes, starting off with challah, I wound up with pretzels.

Once I know that one of my cooking tries has gone unsalvagably haywire, that is the best time to try to salvage it because there's usually no repercussions. You can't ruin it worse unless you catch the house on fire.

Washing dishes was epic.
