The sky fell down. I found a beer that Jenny would drink. It's a Belgian style cherry beer. Considering that Jenny doesn't like any of that, her thinking that it tasted good was rather astonishing.
For conversation, I suggested that we "make something up together."
Jenny responded with, "1920's LARP." So, over our very nice dinner, we wrote the basis of a 1920's LARP centering around producers wanting money at an upscale party, and there not being enough money to go around. Thus, the players (hopefully) start interfering with each other. Now, we just need to write the damned thing.
The fun part is the mix-and-match mechanics that I worked out. In essence, the party could be thrown by the gangster and his socialite wife, or a politician and his flapper wife.
The best characters are the one who had a one sentence description. "The bitter has-been" was my favorite.
Part entertainment should either be by players with talent (and so amuse the party), or utterly no talent, and thus cause nothing but misery for the hostess. Think "bad comedian", or "dancing duet upstaging each other."
This game is all about the train wreck. If you aren't pushing failure until it falls off a cliff, you aren't in the game.
Some historical characters would be wonderful. Not only would you have film and Broadway producers, you could also have a paleontologist organizing an expedition to Mongolia.
