Smart Phones

All the new phones have been hitting engadget. Dudes, that's a mightly load of smartphones. I checked out the new phones today via my carrier. Whoah. I knew lots of smart phones were coming out, but man-o-man, this is ridiculous. The economy is in a tailspin and half the available phones are smart phones. Yes, everyone thinks that competing with the iPhone is a good thing, profits be damned.

I think it would be cool to have one, if I could find one that was a small as a flip set and didn't use data. We don't have a data plan and I don't want to pay for a data plan. Sans data plan, these things are junk. Folks who like flip sets have fewer and fewer options, just like candy-bar phones are fewer and fewer options.

Do you REALLY think that grown-ups want to text each other? Really? Do you really believe in convergence? Or do you believe that ceding the smarmy phone market will give everyone else the advantage?

Truth be told, business can handle a finite number of smart phone platforms, and the public has a finite amount of mindshare. I anticipate a bloodbath in the cell phone business.
