I got a tip from my neighbor on a closer car place. They are just down in Kensington. The good news is that they give me a cheaper estimate. The bad news is that they are closed all next week, so I'd be looking at yet another week of having no vehicle. So, this week, I go with the Gaithersburg place.

Once you find a good repair shop, of course you stick with it. But for dealerships (warantee work & the like), I've had good luck running away: the farther I get from the beltway, the better service I seem to get. Tyson's Corner VW were utterly miserable; Fairfax VW was 50% help, 50% irritation; but the Manassas VW dealer has been consistently helpful, efficient, and skilled. Maybe the same holds true for other car-repair places...
Anyway, good luck with the vehicle.
