1. What is the first record/tape/CD that you bought?
on 45?

I don't remember any more. I just don't. The earliest that I'm sure of is an 8-track of Boston. It cost me .25c at a yard sale. I may have bought a John Denver, too.

2. Who is your favorite all time band/singer?

This has changed over the years. These days, I'm quite impressed with Stephen Merritt. He's the brains behind The Magnetic Fields, the 6ths, the Gothic Archies, and the Future Bible Heroes.

In general, I prefer women singers. 75% of my most recent recording had strong women leads, were were entire female.

3. What have you been listening to lately?
Twee Pop. Examples include Tiger Trap, The All Girl Summer Fun Band, and Go Sailor. When I found a reference to Twee Pop in Allmusic.com, I discovered that I had already bought half the artists on their list. My ear just zeroed into this genre.

4. What is your favorite radio station, what do they play, and where do they broadcast?
Radio? Nope. I listen to samples on Amazon and listen to where those link. I'm paying for all this.

5. Can you recommend a good song or CD that everyone should listen to?
Everyone should listen to the top 100 songs of every year from 1900 to the present. I've made it back to the 50's, but not to the 40's or earlier. This gives you an amazing musical education. I'd also recommend, if its still available, NPR's top 100 musical recordings of the 20th century.

I always recommend listening to something that you never heard before, even if you don't like it. You'll never discover new gems if you listen safely. Music is like love. You'll meet a thousand songs that you hate or lust over, but when love hits you, that's everything.
