Macbeth the Usurper

Church Weekend

To say that this weekend was a churchy weekend would be an understatement. Our church held a retreat, rethinking about it's own future, and where we wanted to focus our energies. It was a question of discovering what was important right now, of seeing where the church's passions stirred, and hopefully, beginning conversations that will burn brighter into the future. Or not. Carrying a passion is not as easy at the movies make it look.

Also during the weekend, I cooked for Jenny's birthday. I made her chicken fried steak, gravy, and mashed potatoes. After dinner, we retreated to the bedroom for some crossword puzzling. Yeah, baby, my wife was one happy puppy.

Also this weekend was that trainwreck that is daylight standard time. There's still snow on the ground. DST is TOO EARLY. Who voted for this stupid law?

In books, I've reread the first section of Dragonflight for the first time in 30 years, and coming out of readin L'Engle, the change in intensity just about blew a hole in my skull. Where's L'Engle is like Bose, "No highs and now lows," McCaffrey was all about playing with sparklers in a TNT shack. Yeesh. Just that first section of Dragonflight gave me great new respect for my genre elder.

Meanwhile, I'm working on the cover for The Wind Before The Storm. Despite all my work, despite all my critical thought, and despite all my study, the results of this design still feel amateurish. I'm not going to sell any books this way.
