Macbeth the Usurper

Wood

I pulled some wood out of the attic.

Some of it looks like a broken up cabinet. It's made of oak plywood. (That's an oxymoron these days.) I should be able to use it.

I have some kitchen doors which are wood core with hardboard facing. That's insane. Right now, I'm trying to find out how to remove the facing. What I need is an electric planer. I don't have one of those. All other methods, so far, have been murderous. The wood looks interesting underneath. It goes from greenish to darkish. I haven't identified it yet.

I am coming to understand the diversity of wood salvage. Finding and explioting urban wood requires different tools than salvaging wood from existing sources. Trees require froes, chainsaws, cars, etc. Reusing existing funiture really requires an electric planer to get rid of all the previous paint/coatings. Hand planers are cheaper than stand-alone planers. Still, it's a PITA. I'd have to do many projects to make my money back on one of those things.

New hobbies. More $$$. More shelf space. I'd rather just rent the tool.
