Macbeth the Usurper

Off to Not Work

Jenny is off early to babysit. Paul and Vanora are having their second child today, late, and all their babysitting has fallen through. I'll be home minding the intelligent terror that is Hers Truly.

I've been poking about my toolbox. I've rediscovered my sharpening tools, just perfect for camping. I have also found an axe head. Whohoo. I'll make it part of a project. Also in my project queue, making my own bucksaw. They are fairly collapsable, which is why I want to make one. First thing, though, is sharpening the danged thing. It is blunt, blunt, and after much work, still blunt.

I found some wonderful axe-use videos on youtube. I found some incredibly easy ways to split wood. Same guy also had some good sharpening videos.

Staying Home

Jenny is out watching Paul and Vanora's eldest while the youngest gets born.

I'm here without Hers Truly, as she is at gymnastics camp. She'll be back this afternoon.

I've been brushing up on my camping skills. Those bushcraft videos are awesome. Everything that scouts tried to teach me, but they were lousy at that.

I found an old axe head in my tools, so today, I made an axe handle. It split a little at the top, but it sharpened up good and is quite useful, and I already like it better than my awful hatchet.

I also tested my portable stove made of tin cans. It almost boiled water except for operator error.

I am now planning to make my own bucksaw. I have all the equipment to do it.

Small bits of the house, here and there, are going into the camping kit as well. I found my draw knife, sharpened it properly like the videos showed, and now it works. Not only is it good for shaping tools, but it makes kindling/shavings fast as lightning.

Mom and dad are bringing us a table a chairs for outside. I'll take free. I don't know if they replaced theirs or a neighbor did. I'll get the story tomorrow.
