Macbeth the Usurper

PC Update

Sold the banjo. It was in a worse state than I thought. I sold it for $90. All those years of using medium gauge strings on did bad stuff to the rim. All in all, not too bad considering that I bought it at $200.

I now have a power supply and a low db fan for the case.

Now, I am onto ordering the motherboard, etc, from Newegg. I have the funds, but I should wait until the most recent auction money transfers over. I want to order the very silent CPU cooler while it is easy to install.

If everything works, the little beast will be fairly silent. If not, I get to modify.

I am holding off on the graphics card.

The Cat

The cat has been rather stir crazy lately with all the rain.

I pulled out a box of packing peanuts so that I could ship something, and you can all predict exactly what happened. Quite amusing, yet still predictable. There's nothing more intrusive than a bored cat.

Getting anything done while he is about has always been a chore. His favorite place is my lap, whether I have a computer there or now. If not my lap, my right arm will do. I *MUST NOT* use it for anything. Maybe after he's gotten his scritches will he let me use that arm.

Internet

The competition for internet service boiled down to Verizon DSL, Verizon FiOS, and Toast.net.

For staying budget-neutral, Toast.net was the best option.

For speed, FiOS was clearly the winner.

For practicality, Verizon DSL won out. This is what I went with. We should double our speed, pay $2 less per month, and have everything on one bill. The trick here is that I do not believe that my Earthlink service was giving me full speed. I think that my router was speed capped in some way. So I may get 3x my current speed.

The big deciding factor was making sure that the wife didn't lose phone service, and that the phone kept working during power outages. When I got the DSL, the phone companies screwed up and kept killing my connections. I don't want that this time.
