Competition

I find the latest spate of competitions for development quite a cool thing. Offer a prize for something, and see who develops what. That's cool. It's better than subsidies. It gets people excided.

The downside is that after enough of these, people get bored. You can only do so many. An X-prize for trash collection? Ho-hum.

All-in-all, I consider this trend in the 00's for competitions to be a great thing, and a great way to show how a little cash, a little publicity, and a spirit of excitement and competition can do grand things for innovation.

Bookselling

News in the D&D world is Amazon.com. The Core Rulebook gift set is #4 on their sales list of ALL BOOKS. That's mighty good. It is certainly far better than most predicted. These days, that's almost as good as the NYT bestseller list.
