Macbeth the Usurper

Finished Wolfe and VT Grades

I finished up another Gene Wolfe. "The Wizard" is now wrapped up.

This book is Gene Wolfe at his Gene Wolfest. (Those who have read Gene know what I mean.) It's a neat book full of neat ideas, but he just doesn't pull them off.

Meanwhile, I'm looking at my old college grades. I finally found out where to get them on the VT web site. Wow. Was I ever a lousy student!!! Lots of B's and C's, with a few D's and A's in there. All I can say is, "WOW".

Nowadays, an "A" at a community college is a cakewalk. I'll have to try a real university again. It's amazing how much better your grades can be when you 1) take one class at a time, 2) aren't messed up, and 3) know your weaknesses much better, 4) and have much better learning skills.

I wonder how much better my grades would have been if I had taken only 12-15 hours per semester? I don't think that they would have been too much better. I was quite distractable in college.

Amazingly, my best year was the one where I had to get up at 6am to work in the dining halls. I have no idea why working in the dining hall and six hours of sleep a night should result in better grades other than I had something completely non-school related to work with.

Wow. I suddenly remembered this gorgeous latina that I sorted books with while I worked in the VT library. She was a sweetie. We had a great time jammin in the sorting room. She just assumed I was a great guy, and I liked being treated that way.

What's a degree?

I'm looking at my on-line degree information for VT. I am seeking that little place that says, "You have X degrees..." Grrr. This should be easier to find. They gave me a diploma, dammit. It should say that somewhere in very plain English.

I'm poking around the alumni web site. I can look up other alumni. Whohoo.

So, besides my friends, who can I find. Ummm... Ah.... OK, I can't REMEMBER hardly anybody's name. Doh. College is now a big memory gap.

Mind you, I kept fairly few friends in school. I had many acquaintences, many of whom I still see occasionally, but few friends. Still, wow, that's a big gap in recall.
