What's so bad about music

I was chatting with kittykatya about music last Friday. She noted the absurdity of the scantily clad women saying, "I want to be a role model," and how their actually display themselves, "Look at these tits I got." She's got a point.

Back in the 80's, it was the backup dancers that wore little to nothing. (Example: Duran Duran's Girls on Film and Hungry Like the Wolf.) This isn't to say that the girls of that era didn't want Simon LeBaun dancing around scantily clad. And heck, Madonna was wearing underwear on the outside of her clothing and saying that she wanted to be a serious artist.

Hypocracy in rock and roll. God help us if it ever goes away.

When it comes to hypocracy, I tend to blame the corporatizing of the music business. That, and executives whose sole assessment of talent consists of cleavage.

All in all, my current assessement of Top 40 is fairly bleak. I shall now proceed to be an old person and complain about "young music."

Here are my complaints:
- The lyrics are just rude and mean
- The hook-lines suck
- There is no melody
- There is no fun
- The videos are boring (but do get bonus points for T&A)
- I can't sing any of that stuff.
- The tracks are too long. Five or six minutes is too long. 2.5-3.5 minutes, please.

This goes with Radio:
- Twenty minutes of commercials
- Fifteen minutes of talking
- Five minutes for news and weather
- Ten minutes of talking over music
- Ten minutes of unadorned music that I don't like

So just call me a pop-addict. I'll keep buying my indie rock, where the angst is real, the fun is fun, and the scathing opinions take off a layer of skin. At least I get more than 10 minutes of music/hour if I do my own programming.
